Leather Tub Chair

Leather can no longer be trusted as a guarantee of quality.

There is a wide range of leathers used to make tub chairs,  and a leather tub chair can be made of any of them.

The assumption is made by the buying public that all leather furniture is made from cattle hide, but this is not necessarily so. Cheap leather tub chairs and other furniture can be made of pig or goat skin, which does not wear nearly as well, and certainly not under heavy use.

Poor leather just does not feel the same either. It feels hard and plastic.

Best leather is full grain, where lower down the scale are corrected grains which have been partly or completely applied to the leather.  In addition the look of a leather tub chair will depend on the tanning process converts the raw hide or skin into a stable material which will not putrefy and is then suitable for use in furniture.

The chemicals used for tanning make a big impact on the final look of the tub chair  – as do the oils applied – which can give for example the colour cream, brown, blue and so on.

Last of all are faux leather tub chairs – but since they are fake leathers they deserve a section all their own
